Chicks

I have always liked chicks, cows, horses and pigs. These are mostly the animals I actually grew up with on an urban farm at the edge of an industrial town in Romania.
Chicks were easy to maintain and it was mostly I who had to feed them. Or my grandmother, or when my father was in the mood he would do it. They have a social system and there are hierarchies and roles. In one group the brooding hen would seek herself seoaration with her chicks from the other members of her group. Slowly she would reinsert herself and the growing chicks in the broader group. But other chicks such as Chabo they have a communal way of raising the chicks. Every memeber of the group participated in the raising of the youngsters.

In such environment the chicks have attitudes and roles. If the environment is rich and broad enough to guarantee a variability of behaviour, chicks will establish complex relations which differ from the very obvious ones of dominance and submission. They develop personalities, even recognizable ways of singing.
